Dal Lake

The Dal Lake is a tiny but charming lake that is situated in the Kangra district of Mcleodganj in Himachal Pradesh at a height of 1,775 metres above sea level close to the village of Tota Rani. The lake, which takes its name from Srinagar’s renowned and stunning Dal Lake, is encircled by craggy mountains and enormous deodar trees. The lake is peaceful and inviting, inviting nature enthusiasts to observe many fish species in their natural habitat.

The lake is the ideal place to relax with loved ones and spend a peaceful day in the midst of nature because of its rich vegetation and blossoming trees. The entire day, nature enthusiasts come to this tourist destination. Trekking expeditions around the lake are an option for thrill seekers. If you’re hiking up to Naddi, popularly known as the Sunset Point, Dal Lake is a great place to rest and unwind.

Due to the presence of the Shiva Temple in this area, a large fair is held there every September. Many members of the Gaddi Tribe participate in this grand celebration to acknowledge the arrival of Lord Shiva.

Best Time To Visit Dal Lake

The greatest time to travel is from May to October because the weather is most kind and pleasant throughout this time. The area is covered in snow during the winter, making it impossible to find solitude here. In the winter, boating is also prohibited. If at all possible, schedule a vacation to Dal Lake in September so you may take in the spectacular fair that is held there.

How To Reach Dal Lake Mcleodganj

Just two kilometres separate the major market from the Dal Lake, which is situated in the Kangra district. To go to the lake, take a car from the bus stop. The Dal Lake is just one kilometre away and can be accessed by walking while taking in the beautiful scenery if you’re travelling from the Naddi Village to visit the lake.

Tips

1. Take fish food with you, and spend a nice afternoon with your special someone while feeding the fish.
2. The lake is full of snakes; avoid attempting to swim in it.

Naddi Village

Following their visit to Dal Lake, visitors can go the further 1 km to Naddi village. People looking for both an active and tranquil experience will find this location suitable because of its gorgeous surroundings and natural beauty. A breathtaking valley view, a chilly sunset, and a tranquil atmosphere at Eco Point are all provided by Naddi Village.

The villagers also take part in a festival in the summer when you can sample various cuisine and mingle with the locals. The 3 kilometre trekking excursion will keep the tourists’ excitement levels up. The community also has a number of shrines where people can worship Lord Keyling and other deities. It is regarded as a fantastic location for weekend excursions.

Things to Do at Dal Lake

– You can enjoy a picnic, go hiking, take pictures of the stunning hills with a panoramic view and the lake surrounded by greenery and the sky while you’re at the Dal Lake, among other activities.
– The area is covered in snow during the winter, which is visible on top of the trees and provides a stunning view of nature.
One of the most tranquil things to do here is to spend a quiet afternoon by the lake watching the fish.

Legends about Dal Lake

These fish are supposedly impossible to catch or eat because the lake is thought to be cursed. Ironically, a modest temple to Lord Shiva is located on the lake’s shores, which contributes to its status as a holy site.
