Location and Height

The valley lies in the Nanda Devi Biosphere Reserve in Chamoli district. It sits at an altitude of about 3,658 meters (12,000 feet) above sea level. During summer and monsoon (July–September), the valley comes alive with hundreds of species of alpine flowers, creating a colorful carpet against the backdrop of towering peaks.

Trek Distance and Duration

The total trekking distance is around 38 kilometers (both ways) from Govindghat. The trek is considered moderate in difficulty and usually takes 4–6 days, depending on the itinerary.

How to Reach

• By Air – The nearest airport is Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun, about 295 km from Govindghat. From there, you can hire a taxi or take a bus.
• By Train – The closest railway station is Rishikesh (around 273 km from Govindghat).
• By Road – Govindghat is well connected by road to Rishikesh, Haridwar, and Dehradun. From Govindghat, a short drive takes you to Pulna, the starting point of the trek.

From Pulna, you trek to Ghangaria, the base village for both Valley of Flowers and Hemkund Sahib. The Valley is about 4 km from Ghangaria and can be covered in a day trip.
